i got fussed at once for writing " may god bless you in your new marriage" on a wedding card.. got funny looks when i said once " god really has blessed us" when talking about my daughter to someone.. seems the jw's took gods blessings away from me.
RR is rite... they always say stuff like "may Jehovah bless u" at weddings during the speeches... i guess that way everybody knows which God it is that they want to bless u... and it's also free advertising put out towards the worldlings that are around

i realize many (or all) of the ex-j.w.
's in this forum have either gotten out of the org., faded, or in some way have come to the conclusion that the watchtower is not the "faithful and discreet slave", and is not the "true" religion that they claim to be.
i am curious to know..... "what made you see the light"?.
a friend of mine mentioned to me that the JW's had joined the UN... i asked my mother about it, and she thought it was the silliest thing she had ever heard! so i started to research this "silliness", and found the origional UK Guardian article, then was completely satisfied after reading it directly from the UN's website... in the meantime i had started reading CoC and found this site, among many, many others... all i can say is, THANK GOD FOR GIVING ME SOME "APOSTATE" FRIENDS!!!

not at all because u'll never hear witnesses say an expression like, "Oh Lord"... they just dont use that word... they barely use the word "God"... it's all about Jehovah, baby! every sentence they say starts with, "Jehovah..."

RUSSELL said so... and if he was wrong, he would be a false prophet. and a false prophet he could not be. so in order to remain a true "prophet among them" the brooklyn lawyers had to make it something that was still true, but different. and then, luckily for them, "coming" in greek also means "presence" YAY!!!!!!!!!
growing up in the 70,s and 80,s i remember at the dc in twickenham ,london ,the 1 item of food that was always liked by us kids was a slice of melon!!

(i never liked the drama much even as a kid).. i dont have too many bad memories of the religion,but i think that even little things like doing away with food at conventions made me question what the hell i was doing in it.
as a homosexual, im not really relating to the whole "melon" innuendo. but when i was younger, at our circuit assembly we had ice cream. u could put hot fudge, hot caramel, or strawberries on it. and it was cheaaaap man. we used to get like 2 or three per day. and for a long time we had hot food too... nutritious and delicious!

my parents were both very strict, and i wasn't allowed any toys at the hall.
my rations included a copy of my book of bible stories, and a pen and note pad.
my parents were strict to the point of not allowing me to draw pictures, i had to "take notes".
my baby sister had a bottle, and i would pretend it was a rocket and blast off with it.
on the wts site is an article entitled: "should i get a tattoo?
" and the guilts are everywhere in this article!
it doesn't take too much intelligence to work out early on what the wts' stance on tattoos is, not that it seems to have much to do with "freedom in christ".
everyone here in canada took that article as saying that it was okay to get a tattoo, and now lots of kids have it and they do not get marked or lose priveledges, as far as i know. as long as it is nothing offensive, and not on your forehead or something, it seems to be A-OK up here

i was watching the new exorcist the other day (GASP!... rated R and demonized!!!) and the symbol/icon of St. Peter's Cross is displayed and referred to a lot. it made me wonder about what Jdubs believe about how St. Peter was martyred. Catholics, as far as i know, believe St. Peter was set to be crucified, but he didn't feel worthy to die like Jesus, so they turned his cross upside-down. if he was crucified upside-down, then that would mean that Jesus was crucified rightside-up. which means Jesus died on a cross. i asked my Jdub mother the other day how St. Peter was martyred, and she said, "the society doesn't say, and neither does the bible." of course the society comes before the bible. what are all of your thoughts on this subject? and please, for those who are not in the slightest bit religious, please dont bother posting, unless it has relevent historical backing

it has been some months since my wife and i left the org.
my mother is an absolute zealot, and had heard through the grapevine (aka the underground policing comitee; we live in a different circuit and district now) that we haven't been to meetings.
she is the last vestige of guilt that i have remaining about leaving, though not in the conventional sense.
your story really touched my heart because i know how afraid you were to confront your mother, coupled with the general fear of breaking her heart. im glad you feel your prayer was answered. and maybe it was. i hope you can now enjoy somewhat of a new beginning in a mental/emotional/spiritual sense.
